The one and only Deadboy has a new EP, White Magick, due out in April. Whilst the South London cult underground producer has predominantly released on Glasgow-based label Numbers to date, White Magick marks his label debut for UK label Local Action (a new-ish label run by FACT Magazine’s Tom Lea and featuring some pretty decent releases from Strict Face, DJ Q, Jacques Greene, Truss and more). Another change for Deadboy is the tone of the new material – this EP will see Deadboy share some of his less club-minded material, and preview more song / melody based stuff.
“I wanted to make a record that was about enjoying the process and not trying to come up with a club commodity or a tool for DJs,” Deadboy shared with Resident Advisor in regards to the direction of the upcoming EP. For those who’ve been following closely at home, you might recall Deadboy previewing some of these White Magick tracks in his mix for Truants last year.
Deadboy's given us something to work with by way of a buoyant new track from the EP, Inner Palace, that shares the same colourful quality as the recent PC Music output, with a distinctly Deadboy-ish hook.
