'I Wanted My Album To Feel Bigger Than Just Music': Charley On 'The Chronicles Of A Serial Idealist'

Leaps & Bounds: Waywardbreed

When did you start making music and why? Joined first band in 2002. Started writing my own songs in 2008, because the band I was in broke up and I knew I could only be happy doing my own thing.

Sum up your musical sound in four words? Sweet melancholic folk.

What other events/gigs are you looking forward to at Leaps & Bounds? Townes van Zandt Tribute gig at The Pinnacle.

What do you think is the best thing about a festival like Leaps & Bounds? Lots of gigs all the time.

What are your favourite places to hang out in the City of Yarra and why? Home, where I can play guitar and work on songs. Otherwise, Gasometer, the Old Bar, The Gem, The Standard, Pinnacle and Some Velvet Morning. Food, wine and music.

Why should people come and see your band at Leaps & Bounds? We’ll be celebrating the beautiful words and music of some amazing songwriters who left us too soon.

When and where for your Leaps & Bounds gig? Sunday 5 Jul, Evelyn Hotel — Sparklehorse Tribute; Sunday 19 Jul, The Gasometer — Jason Molina Tribute.
