Leaps & Bounds: Alex Lahey

More Alex Lahey Alex Lahey

When did you start making music and why? When I was about three years old I told my mum I wanted to play the saxophone, so she enrolled me in recorder classes. The recorder is due for a comeback...

Sum up your musical sound in four words? Songs for good people.

What other events/gigs are you looking forward to at Leaps & Bounds? A friend just sent me a song by Georgia Maq to listen to that I really dug, so I’ll definitely make an appearance at her gig with Cash Savage at the Oldie.

What do you think is the best thing about a festival like Leaps & Bounds? It doesn’t matter if you’re a super-established act or a first timer, there’s a place for everyone to play, and that’s what Melbourne’s music scene is all about.

What are your favourite places to hang out in the City of Yarra and why? The Ev; I’ve played there over 55 times in various shapes and forms – so many beers but never too many. Special mention to Gaso, Workers, Corner, Bar Open and The Old Bar.

Why should people come and see your band at Leaps & Bounds? This show is going to be our first gig as a band! You can watch us awkwardly split the rider.

When and where for your Leaps & Bounds gig? I’ll be opening for Mojo Juju 18 Jul for the final show of the Spiegeltent Sessions at the Melba Spiegeltent. It’s going to be a banger! Mojo Juju is a lord.
