Laura Marling ProfileUK-bred, US-based singer-songwriter Laura Marling is continuing to celebrate the release of her fifth studio full-length, Short Movie, late last month with her new single Gurdjieff's Daughter, the stunning clip for which has also just been unveiled.
The song takes its name from influential spiritual teacher George Ivanovich Gurdjieff, who was renowned for his boundary-pushing ideas about consciousness, awareness and existence, and sonically takes a driven, almost alt-country-esque tack, her lilting, effortless vocals lifting the arrangement through its minor-key twists and turns.
The clip itself was filmed in Marling's eastern Los Angeles home, providing a candid glimpse into the everyday life of the celebrated chanteuse, and features cameo appearances from "friends she met while recording the album", including Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij, Jonathan Wilson, UK singer/songwriter Marika Hackman and British actress Rhian Rees.
