La Femme also have plans for a bigger Aussie tour in the near future.
Having released a handful of EPs and toured steadily since their formation in 2010, French band La Femme gained massive success with the release of their debut album Psycho Tropical Berlin, earning the French award Victoires de la Musique for ‘Album Revolution’ in February 2014.
“I’m in a castle in the country and we’re recording some new songs with the band so it’s pretty creepy,” says guitarist and founding member Sacha Got, the band hard at work on their follow-up. “Right now we have put all of our instruments in the room, so we have lots of old keyboards and a bunch of shit, and we’re recording by ourselves now with Sam (Lefevre, bass) handling the more technical parts of it. We try to work fast and be focused so it’s good to be in the country because it’s far away and it’s better because when you are in Paris there is too much perturbation or too much intellection with the outside world so you can’t really be focused.”

The band is known for their ability to fuse multiple styles such as surf music and cold wave along with techno and punk. As far as the new album goes, Got says the band will continue to mix together a range of sounds: “I think it’s like the same idea, like there is no one style for us so we can go in a lot of ways but we have to find the unity in the sound. But I think they will be maybe more slow-tempo songs, more deep and psych, you know, and there will be techno psych too. After Australia we’re coming back to the castle to finish the album and then once the album will be finished we’ll go back on tour and hopefully be doing everywhere you know like Africa, South America or in Greenland, you know.”
The band is coming to Australia as part of So Frenchy So Chic, a festival celebrating the best of French music, food and wine. Got says when it comes to his own tastes, he likes to keep things simple. “Well I think if you go to France, the best thing you have to do is get a baguette with some good fromage like Brie or Comté and then drink a good bottle of red wine and you’ll be fine.”
On finishing the record, Got is hopeful La Femme will be able to return to our shores for a larger tour so more of the country can get a chance to hear them in action. “We’ve played a couple of the new tracks a few times so I guess when we’re in Australia too we’ll have two or three or four new songs to play. I guess with Psycho Tropical Berlin, we will do it with an Australian label and when we have our next record, we’ll make a big tour and make a big tour in Australia and everywhere else.”
