The raw guitar licks that languished in the air in 6 Feet Beneath The Moon are gone but the almost nihilistic attitude of Krule, now performing as Archy Marshall, that seeped into his tone and lyrics in 6 Feet Beneath The Moon remains in A New Place 2 Drown. And with this new album comes new members including Marshall's brother Jack and what seems like an attempt to captures the musical zeitgeist, electronic music. A New Place 2 Drown isn't a stand alone album but rather a sound-track for a mini documentary the Marshall brothers made about their collaboration and family. You can watch it here:
To jump back to the album it isn't anything like big room EDM but the fact that it's rooted in quivering beats that you would just as likely hear in alternative hip-hop says something about the changing influences within Marshall. Indeed, the way Marshall speaks rather than sings sees the music comes across as a mixture of beat poetry and rap. A New Place 2 Drown won't capture your attention like 6 Feet Beneath The Moon did but it's varying proximity from other music in 2015 will still hold you for long enough to digest the album.
