"Without boasting, we're good musicians who can play it right with feeling... usually."

Japam have only been kicking around since 2014, originally the heavy rock dream of lead guitarist Seb Hudson. "I'd been writing songs in my bedroom for a few years and decided to take the plunge and start playing them live. I asked good buddy Ryan [Lucivero - vocals] if he could write some lyrics and sing. We grabbed a few more great dudes to help and the rest is history," he says of their inception, which now includes Andreas Murphy (guitar), Ben "Whitey" Whitehorn (bass) and Jack Thomson (drums).

Their first EP — comically entitled How's My EP? — will be released on 13 May, with single DK Facepunch one of Hudson's favourites to play. "Funnily enough my drummer just asked if I could write a song that really grabs attention and punches people in the face. I laughed it off but a few weeks later this is just what came out. It's our most driving and aggressive song, and the most fun to play," he explains. "Without boasting, we're good musicians who can play it right with feeling... usually."

How's My EP? is just the start for the young Adelaidians, "The single [DK Facepunch] is part of our first EP, with plans for a second EP to follow. All these songs were written in what feels like the first era of Japam. I don't want to give away too much but I've been writing new material for an eventual album, era two."
