There's no better way to introduce Slush than using their words: "We’re talkin’ like feminist punk ditties that’re quite sweet and poppy, but also super screamy and angry at times (particularly the songs about menstruation, fuckboys and Bono)." The Melbourne trio are an emerging name from our continually growing and diversifying pop-punk scene, offering something a little different with clever, sassy lyricism that ranges from light-hearted pop-punk to something darker and more sinister, at-times taking on quite a heavy and thrashier sound. Their new single, Middle Name, mixes pop-centric choruses with fiery guitar riffs and thick percussion; creating something accessible and fun but a little left of centre. It arrives ahead of some Sydney/Melbourne shows across February and March - including two supporting 2019 ones-to-watch Cry Club - so take a dive into it below while you get to know them a touch better:

Slush is Acacia (she/her), Scout (they/them) and Caitlyn (she/her). We’re three country kids who all moved to Melbourne from the Mid-North Coast of NSW. We met in high school and have been playing music together ever since, in various groups. We’d heard a lot about the Melbourne music scene and were really keen to come and get amongst it.
What kinda tunes we talkin’?
We’re talkin’ like feminist punk ditties that’re quite sweet and poppy, but also super screamy and angry at times (particularly the songs about menstruation, fuckboys and Bono). Scout loves drum fills, Caitlyn likes having her bass loud, and Acacia’s all about those power chords.
Can you tell us about your new single, Middle Name?
Middle Name is definitely a favourite of ours. It’s got a killer riff as the hook, and driving bass and drums over super punchy chords, layered with bright pop vocal harmonies. It’s a cute lil track about having a crush on someone, and that weird, exciting feeling you get. We all started relationships last year and were feeling a bit cute and gross, which manifested into song-form. Musically, it takes inspiration from bands like The Spazzys, Tacocat and The Ramones.
Any shows coming up?
We're doing a couple shows with Cry Club in the coming weeks (our first interstate show too!) plus, will be launching our new single at The Grace on March 1!
Watch out for us at these upcoming shows:
Fri. Feb 22 @ The Gasometer, Melbourne (supporting Cry Club)
Fri Mar 1 @ The Grace Darling Basement, Melbourne (Middle Name single launch)
Sat Mar 9 @ Botany View Hotel, Sydney (supporting Cry Club)
What’s the rest of the year have in store?
For starters, we’re super proud to be joining the Hysterical Records family. In addition to launching some music and gigging a bunch, we’ve got some fun music videos in the works, and are hoping to make some groovy merch as well.
Where can we hear more of your music?
There’s going to be more tracks released through Hysterical Records following Middle Name, which will be available on our Bandcamp and other streaming platforms, as well as a cheeky cassette on the horizon. Stay tuned…
