Sugar Prawn is a "booze-orientated food hall" with a menu boasting classic Malaysian hawker street food favourites — with modern twists. It reflects the heritage of chef, Travis Tong.
You should start your day there with some thick-cut white toast with kaya (coconut jam). Or maybe go for the pandan sago pudding with black sesame, seasonal fruit and rose syrup. For drinks, opt for something fruity at the Jasmin Jus Buah or go the traditional route with a kopi or kopi C (sweetened with condensed or evaporated milk respectively).
Lunchtime: try the kon loh mee (dry noodles with wontons) lunch special with your choice of curry, char siu or Hainanese chicken — with a free 100plus or Kickapoo (popular Malaysian sports/soft drinks)! They have four other lunch specials on top of the regular lunch/dinner menu, which is broken into snacks, smaller plates, bigger plates and greens. Think duck, prawns, chilli, crab, curry, pickles, pork belly, tofu, century egg, peanuts, sambal, water spinach, satay, snake beans.
There's wine and beer available, and a small-but-incredibly enticing cocktail list — all drinks with an Asian element to them. Magic Milk, for example, includes lychee liqueur, Makgeolli and honey, while the Hotel Formosa is made of nashi pear, green tea liqueur and Yuzu.
With the restaurant featuring prettiest pink interior complete with sleek lighting, a retro-style bar, 100plus can sculptures and kitsch bric-a-brac, it really wouldn't be a stretch to just spend your whole day there.
