Have You Heard: Shifting Sands

When did you start making music and why? Shifting Sands have been bothering Brisbane's dive bar scene for roughly three years, making equal parts friends to enemies. I wanted to make music that could delivered from a chair. And so this...

Sum up your musical sound in two words? Alco-aesthetique depresso-core.

If you could support any band in the world — past or present — who would it be? Any band of note who are either generous or have a rider worth thieving. Bad Seeds maybe... or Black Heart Procession.

If you could only listen to one album forevermore, what would it be and why? They all sound terrible after two listens. If I had to it would be Disco Nights. It was the first album (cassette) I ever owned. I stand by that decision. A formidable disco compilation.

Greatest rock’n’roll moment of your career to date? I’ve been in SixFtHick 20 years, here’s a blindfold, take your pick. In the Sands... I got so hammered I fell off my stool and some kid called me “decrepit” before he fell unconscious and pissed himself. That was nice.

Why should people come and see your band? We fight fire with fire, cure depression, fashion bespoke hangovers and instill a false sense of wellbeing (albeit brief).

When and where for your next gig? We ooze into Factory Floor on 3 Jul supported by Devotional and Cec Condon’s (Mess Hall) newie Roadhouses.
