Have You Heard: Collard Greens & Gravy

"I started a band at school; none of us could play instruments but it didn't deter us."

Answered by: Ian Collard

When did you start making music and why? I started a band at school; none of us could play instruments but it didn't deter us. We were inspired by bands like The Gun Club and The Cramps.

Sum up your musical sound in four words? Stripped back swampy blues.

If you could only listen to one album forevermore, what would it be and why? Little Walter's complete recordings — he invented modern harmonica in the '50s and his music still sounds cutting edge.

Greatest rock'n'roll moment of your career to date? Winning an ARIA for Best Blues And Roots CD in 2001.

Why should people come and see your band? If you are a fan of old school swampy blues and enjoy a boogie or two, you'll have a ball.

When and where for your next gig? Twentieth year together celebration at Spotted Mallard, 12 Dec, with special guests Jeff Lang & Suzannah Espie and Backwood Creatures.
