Have You Heard: Claire Jansen

29 June 2016 | 4:13 pm | Artist Submission

When did you start making music and why? I taught myself to play bass when we started Catsuit in 2012, and for Heart Beach in 2013. I had always wanted to write music. Once I was in a band I had to.

Sum up your musical sound in four words? '90s indie ocean-pop drone

If you could only listen to one album forevermore, what would it be and why? One Beat by Sleater-Kinney. There's something dark and ferocious about it that is also uplifting and comforting. I love Corin Tucker's voice and the wailing guitars over drums.

Greatest rock'n'roll moment of your career to date? The Heart Beach LP receiving four stars in The Guardian and making Australian Rolling Stone's top ten under-the-radar releases for 2015. Playing in the pouring rain in New Zealand with the crowd on stage with us was also pretty great.

Why should people come and see you? Because live music is visceral. We love performing and having you there makes us write better music.

When and where for your next gig? 7 Jul, Keep One Eye On The Stranger @ Festival Of Voices, The Voicebox; 8 Jul, Catsuit @ Treehouse album launch, Grand Poobah, Hobart; 20 Aug, Heart Beach @ Grand Poobah, Hobart.
