‘I Stay Out Of It. I Cook’: Even After 13 Years Between Albums, Coming Up With A Karnivool Setlist Remains Quite The Feat

Have You Heard: Andrew Phelan

"Loud, sad songs."

When did you start making music and why? I think I was in my early teens when I realised that all of the fragments and chaos in my brain made more sense if I put them in a song. That hasn't changed.
Sum up your musical sound in four words? Loud, sad songs.
If you could only listen to one album forevermore, what would it be and why? Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch! It covers so much space for one record, and for me will always be the yardstick for songwriting. The amount of patience in every song is so inspiring.
Greatest rock'n'roll moment of your career to date? Playing to a few thousand people at Squamish Valley Music Festival, and finishing the show on my back with my guitar screaming next to me. Then meeting Chance, The Rappers' band that night and having a drink named after me.
Why should people come and see your band? We play shows for people to dance, sing, and drink with us. It's a party! and you can be yourself
When and where are your next gigs? December
The Lansdowne in Sydney, Dec 13;  Station Bar in Katoomba, Dec 14; The Junkyard in Maitland, Dec 16
