The Event: Emerge in Yarra Festival
Why should punters visit you? A week long festival of language classes, craftanoons, comedy nights, Afghan, Ethiopian and Vietnamese cooking demonstrations, Ethio-Jazz performances & workshops, Persian rock, West Papuan harmonies, sound and video installations, all showcasing our city's cultural diversity!
What’s the history of the event? It's been running 12 years, celebrating the contribution emerging, refugee and asylum seeker communities have on contemporary arts and culture.
Any advice for first timers who want to visit the event? Bit of a cliche but there is something for everybody! Whether you've been wanting to learn the basics of Arabic or Karen weaving techniques. Check out the program, you'll find events for young and old!
Do you have any plans for the event in the future? Would love to hear from the public and artists about other kinds of events they would like included in the future. The sky is the limit and I'd love to expand the festival into some culturally and artistically experimental territories.
