Have You Been To: A Rock And Roll Writers Festival

1 April 2016 | 10:14 am | Artist Submission

Answered by: Joe Woolley (Co-Founder & Producer)

What made you want to start this event? As fans of music and writing, we wanted to understand the way each art form influences and changes the other - we love books where music is another character, and great songs that reference literature.

How did you choose your writers and performers? Our brilliant authors and songwriters were the ones we admired and we felt had interesting viewpoints, experiences and insights - people who could communicate the way they became inspired and why specific music or books meant so much to them.

How did you choose your topics of conversation? There are lots of things we're curious about, or intimidated by, or that have some mystery that we want to shine some light on - the emotions and meaning of communication through music and words, and how that comes about.

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

What makes writing about music so engaging? The best writers decipher clues in the music that we've missed - and make us curious - and offer us context, opinions and connections - musical doors to open that lead off from the main subject to new, exciting musical discoveries.

What do you hope your audience takes away from the day? We'd like them to be entertained, amused, maybe aroused. We'd like to have people laugh, think, see new viewpoints, hear stories and better understand the creative process - plus of course there's the juicy gossip!

When and where is it all taking place? At The Brightside in the Valley, 2 & 3 Apr, from 10am. And tickets are still available!
