Hack

Rising from the dusty streets of Ipswich, punchy five-piece Hack are quickly putting their stamp on a cross-pollinating sound that's entirely their own. Nelson opens up about the band's various rock tastes, helping to pitch a signpost for their unstill sound.

“I guess you could say we like to keep things hacked,” he jokes. “We all listen to heaps of different bands but we all still seem to keep our tastes fairly similar in music. Our common favourites would be bands like QOTSA, The Bronx, Alexisonfire, Thrice, Deftones and the Fooies. I also like La Dispute, Circa Survive, Finch and Gallows. Kyle [Brown – drums] has influences from Tool and Karnivool, and Dave [Porter – bass] digs older punk bands I've sometimes never heard of. It's a storm of music we listen to, though I don't think we listen to too much heavy stuff. Well, me anyway.”

Solid friends before the wheels of Hack were put in motion, the band have wasted no time carving an identity for themselves. With one EP already in the can, the band are keen to get another release out to the masses in 2012, but not before they take to the stage with fellow young rebel rousers, Melbourne's British India, for a real Easter treat.

“We're all so pumped for this show!” he exclaims, obviously buzzing in anticipation. “We were thinking of putting Chevy [Wilson – vocals] in like a pink fluffy bunny costume or something. Not too sure if he'll agree to that though. We will, however, be playing some new never before heard songs which I think are awesome! Maybe you might see some eggs around too...”
