"Next up was Canberra. It was a night for firsts; the first east coast show of the tour, the first show with beatmaker Willow Beats, and the first technical fuck up."
We started off this week with a performance for ABABCd, a new music show venture from the creator of Poncho TV. They shot to stardom early 2012 when they locked themselves in a room for 48 hours straight with Duck Sauce's Barbra Streisand on loop. Since then they've (fortunately) gone on to bigger and better things and ABABCd could be best described as Jools Holland meets Tim and Eric. This episode featured performances by our buddies Big Scary and Splashh. We played Closest I Could Get, it was about the third time we had ever played it and for the internet savvy you can track it down on YouTube.
Never gets old seeing your name up in lights.

Next up was Canberra. It was a night for firsts; the first east coast show of the tour, the first show with beatmaker Willow Beats, and the first technical fuck up. Willow Beats opened the show with some great sounding tunes. He flew solo tonight without his partner in crime/niece Kalyani. Phebe Starr played a good set, again with the 'stripped down' version of her live show. We started playing and there was a great vibe in the transit bar, as the venue is quite small it only takes one or two hundred people to make a fun time. Despite us having to stop for around 5 minutes halfway through the set due to the stage power cutting out, the crowd was insane and even though if felt like -10 degrees outside, it was a very warm welcome back to Canberra.
Sydney. Sydney, Sydney, Sydney. You fucking legends Sydney. We hadn't played a headline show in Sydney for almost two years and Friday nights show at the Oxford Art Factory was one of the funnest shows we've ever played. The whole night felt great. Willow Beats obliterated their slot with the addition of some live vocals. Phebe Starr debuted her 'full band' live show on this tour and it really brought her set to life. Both Willow Beats and Phebe were great. As soon as we got on we could feel the crowds energy, everyone was up for a fun night it seemed.
What a view! Probably cold as shit in there though...
After our set finished we were backstage and some guy came in with 4 good looking females and gold chains hanging off him, saying he liked the show. He lingered around for about 10 minutes before walking out claiming we 'have no idea who he is'. I still really want to know.
Our new toy.
Afterwards we headed to World Bar for a quick DJ set and then headed straight to the airport en route to River Sessions Music Festival in Mackay. Regional Bogans, woo! This show was a royal fuck up due to a plethora of technical blunders beyond our control, but the crowd was great and the staff and people putting on the event were awesome and the day was a big success from their point of view. Instead we entertained ourselves with some flashy new light up water bottles. You literally press the bottom of it and it's like a glow stick. The future is here. Kingswood undertook duties of setting up a 50 metre bowling alley equivalent using about 200 bottles.
Highlights of the night included a nostalgic trip down memory lane for Rob Clifton soundtracked by Grinspoon, and a mind bending set by Hermitude. Seriously, who judo chops bass notes with one hand while flickering off leads with the other at speeds mimicking that Asian female receptionist who types really fast at my mum's work. Speaking of my mum she just called me because it's my birthday. Happy birthday to me.
Fuck yeah!!!
Next week: Lacasa House, Gold Coast and Brisbane.
