Gettin' Comfy: Oliver Downes

What is it about the venue that makes you want to a run of shows there? The See-Dubs is both warm AND cozy, has alcoholic ginger beer on tap, a pool table, an ace bistro, courtyard, is just off the beaten track but still in the mix. It's the perfect local.

Same set every week or mixing it up? Mixing it up for sure. I'll be putting songs from my upcoming album Ultraviolet through their paces ahead of my September launch, trialling a few newbies and having fun with the odd cover.

Any special guests going to make an appearance during your tenure? Yes. Am particularly looking forward to doing a duet with Canberran violinist, looper and saw-player Happy Axe on 21 May. SAW! So cool. Also heaps excited to hear Sydneysider Hollie Matthew on 28 May.

Favourite position at the venue when you're not on stage? By the fire, obviously. In an armchair. With ginger beer in hand. And a to-the-death game of backgammon unfolding against a good friend. Who is preferably female. And unattached. Does that sound salacious? It does, doesn't it? Ah well.

When are you in residence? I'll be doing my thing in the front bar of the Charles Weston Hotel, 6.30-8.30pm, every Saturday in May.
