For over 40 years La Renaissance has kept the art of French patisserie alive in Sydney, committed to serving pastries of the highest standard. Situated in The Rocks, the business has now become the first patisserie in the Southern Hemisphere to be inducted into the world class association Relais Desserts.
With an exclusive body of 80 members, Relais Desserts recognises the best in French patisserie — the patisserie equivalent of receiving a Michelin Star. Through the process of invitation, assessment and sponsorship, head chef Jean Michel Raynaud and co-owner Sally Charkos are delighted to have received one of the highest honours in the patisserie world.
La Renaissance recently held a decadent celebration of this momentous occasion, where lucky guests were able to taste the gateau Raynaud created for his Relais Dessert induction ceremony, which incorporated a palette of Aussie flavours including lemon myrtle, aniseed myrtle and wild hibiscus. Raynaud hopes that his achievements will inspire more pastry chefs to "help put Australia on the international patisserie map".
