The band never short of shenanigans..
The Red Engine Caves are a band out of WA making some seriously good tunes. The band is set to release some new music at the end of February, with Purple Pam a taster ahead of their new album later this year. At a time were it is not uncommon to see bands with 6 or 7 or 8 members on the stage, the Fremantle three-piece have refined a huge sound built on raw, blues-fuelled, psychedelic rock. R.E.C are renowned for their innovation and continue to grow in statue as one of WA’s best live shows. They’re bloody good blokes, too, have a read below:
So obviously, first question, are Green Day loose blokes? And can you tell us how you guys came to be their favourite band ever?
We drank their whole rider by accident haha! They’re all really short, I think they all went to rehab.
And what is the legend behind the formation of the Red Engine Caves?
It involves some lost car keys, a police officer, and a lady with really strong thighs… which brings us back to the lost car keys.
The Black Mary LP was released last year onto vinyl, is this a medium you guys are really into? Is it the sound or the physical aesthetic that you dig most?
It’s harder to lose a vinyl, plus we couldn’t fit the poster in a CD case and there’s something about that crackle. Mmmmm.
I hear Tony Hawk was into the Black Mary vinyl. Any chance of hearing a bit of the Caves on Pro Skater 5?
I think he used the sleeve to get drugs back to America. I wish we were on Tony’s 2, the school level is too good.
You guys threw a gig at a Whiskey Distillery last year, we’re guessing because whiskey is such an important influence?
Yeah you’re not far wrong. It was sick hosting one of our own shows outside of all the usual venues, the Whipper Snapper guys are legends and love live music too so they were keen as to let us do it. It’s a shame they copped it from the council and liquor licensing afterwards, but what are you going to do, there’s going to be whining fucks everywhere you go.
What was the writing process like for you guys on the new stuff?
Lock Ricky in a dark room for a couple days.
Blood is spilt quite often at a R.E.C show, have you guys seen those new band-aids they invented that like immediately stop bleeding?
Red Engine Caves does not endorse any of the following products: band-aids, condoms, rubber gloves or tooth paste.
What can we expect on the 27th?
Some sweet rock'n'roll bands, getting loose and stingin’.
