What makes your event stand out from other festivals? FOTSUN is where you'll see all those epic, new and exploding artists that everyone will be talking about way later than Fotsunners. Camp and party with 3,000 like-minded legends that just want to be your mates. All with a BYO can in your hand and feet in the sand.
What’s improved for your next event? We are going single-use plastic free - we are discouraging all single-use plastic for 2018, which we believe is a huge first step for any camping festival in NSW. We are also launching our E-Can-Nomy, which basically is using cans to buy items from merch to food.
Favourite festival ‘Do you remember when…’ moment? My most recent smile moment was Gang Of Youths running off the stage, looking straight at me like little kids and saying, "Can we do one more song?" It was like watching a grom ask for one more wave before having to come in - and of course I said yes!
Which artist – living or dead – would you like to have backstage drinks with? Joe Hansen, the bass player from Grinspoon - 6pm - your shout, mate.
How is the festival landscape changing? Independent Australian (and New Zealand) owned and operated music festivals are definitely starting to really see the benefits in coming together to look out for one another as opposed to the traditional cards to the chest attitude. This gives the smaller festivals a more encouraging voice in the industry
Is there more pressure to create an “Instagrammable” festival? Each festival wants to portray its own unique style to its audience. Photos are a great way to do so and Instagram is cool for this, just don't get too caught up in making everyone look like they have actually showered in the past 12 hours.
How do you go about ensuring your festival is a safe space? FOTSUN set simple rules for our punters that relate to respecting one another, themselves and us. Break these simple rules and you will be asked to go elsewhere to have your fun. A very high number of first aid, healthcare and social interaction staff are always a few steps away
What are your views on pill testing? Do you think it has a place at festivals? We appreciate all correspondence with local and state authority directives in all of our safety strategies - if pill testing was ever a part of this directive with local, state or federal authorities we would certainly work closely with them to investigate it with our harm minimisation strategies.
