Festival Focus: Dashville Skyline

Americana/alt-country music is something we're all a bit passionate about.

Answered by: Magpie Johnston

What makes your event stand out? Dashville is out there on its own. A permanent outdoor festival venue like nothing else. The first ever Dashville Skyline festival is something we have sculpted meticulously after ten years of inspiration doing The Gum Ball. It's going to be pretty special. Americana/alt-country music is something we're all a bit passionate about.

What's improved for your next event? Dashville Skyline 3 & 4 October will reveal a new and improved site. We've been busy out there. The layout of the Skyline festival will be completely different to The Gum Ball (our other boutique festival) utilising a few new structures we've built. Hard to believe, but we reckon this one might just be better than The Gum Ball...

Favourite festival 'Do you remember when...' moment? Probably Slane Castle, Ireland '04 when QOTSA, Foo Fighters, RHCP and PJ Harvey played one after the other.

Most regrettable festival moment you've had? Not so much regrettable as uncomfortable, when I ridded my shirt and tore my boardies in the heat of the moment, then accidentally caught the train south instead of north after Sydney Big Day Out '02. When I woke up though, some chick handed me eggs, which was cool.

Which artist — living or dead — would you like to have backstage drinks with? Willie Nelson or Levon Helm. Failing that, my bands, Magpie Diaries or Dashville Progress Society.

Who would your dream headliner be? For Dashville Skyline... I'd have to say Willie Nelson, Wilco or Ryan Adams.

When & where is Dashville Skyline? 3 & 4 Oct, Dashville, Lower Belford.
