"I guess I'll mostly be talking about the independent music community and record stores, and the virtues and tribulations facing physical media."

Name: Nic Warnock

Position: Record guy at Repressed Records & R.I.P. Society.

How did you first become involved in the music business? Completely by accident, a result of my passion/hobby. I've always been a music fan but being a part of 'da biz' was inconceivable to a younger version of myself and still is in some strange way.

What's your area of expertise and what experience do you have? I have worked at Repressed Records for 10 years and have run the label R.I.P. Society for six years. I would say my expertise has to do with the Do-It-Yourself ethos to supporting music culture.

What topics will you be mostly talking about at Face The Music? I guess I'll mostly be talking about the independent music community and record stores, and the virtues and tribulations facing physical media, but I'll pretty much talk about anything anyone throws at me.

What do you hope to personally take away from Face The Music? I feel my anticipated role at these music conferences is usually to be the protagonist, the anti-industry figure. I'm somewhat ok with that but would rather have a more productive dialogue, actually help music culture.

What's one question about the music industry you'd love to have the answer to? Honestly I'd want to question the entire purpose and function of the established industry. In the words of the quintessential apocalyptic rock quartet Discharge, "Why why why but why?"
