Face The Music: Dorothy Markek

"Why did you close down your vinyl plants and why didn't I buy one back then?"

Position: Music Director — Double J

How did you first become involved in the music business? From a conversation about Blur with Angela Schumann among the CD racks of Red Eye Records. She was leaving EMI for ABC Music so I applied and second time lucky I got her job.

What's your area of expertise and what experience do you have? Lyrical recall and quick draw on our weekly Name That Song game. I've also been a music programmer for 10 years in music television with Channel [V] and MAX and radio with Double J.

What topics will you be mostly talking about at Face The Music? Who we are, what we play, how we decide what to play and who we play it for. The interplay between Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, Double J.

What do you hope to personally take away from Face The Music? Putting real life faces to names. Spreading the word about Double J. Subtle JD Samson fan-girling.

What's one question about the music industry you'd love to have the answer to? Why did you close down your vinyl plants and why didn't I buy one back then?
