The iconic Mario's Cafe is celebrating its 30th anniversary on 28 April, throwing back to its opening days in 1986 when it was a hangout for artists, performers and agents.
The two Marios — Mario Maccarone and Mario de Pasquale — designed a new kind of eatery that held the middle ground in style and content; we're talking muted jazz and walls covered in the works of emerging artists, inexpensive dishes with fresh produce and traditional Italian flavours. Today, they're marking their history with a flashback celebration serving their menu at 1986 prices.
