Event Focus: The Story Of Bon Scott

When did your admiration for Bon Scott first develop?

I first saw Bon Scott with AC/DC on countdown in 1975 with Baby, Please Don't Go. Couldn’t believe what I was seeing, had a big impression on me as a 10 year old.

What can expect from the show?

It’s a narrated concert in the style of Man In Black, basically taking you through Bon’s early life, his earlier bands and obviously the heady days of AC/DC, plus letters, anecdotes and some bloody funny stories.

Tell us a little bit about your role and what it means to be narrating the show?

Bon Scott is almost a folk hero in this country, up there with Ned Kelly. I took this role as a huge fan of Bon not only as a great singer/frontman but also a great songwriter and I have gone to great lengths to get the other side of him across in the show - not easy in two hours!!

How does it feel to be putting the show on in Fremantle on what would have been Bon Scott’s 70th birthday?

Feels very fitting. I need to stress that this not a tribute show; it's a conversation about Bon, about his life, interspersed with kick arse rock'n'roll from a great band who are AC/DC tragics. If you are a fan of Bon Scott, I guarantee you will learn a few things and have a bloody good time doing it!

Why do you think Bon Scott is still so influential and beloved today?

He was unique, the real thing, an incredible singer, really incredible effortlessness. His lyrics are some of the most underrated examples of rock'n'roll songwriting you will hear and when you look at him in those live clips you can't imagine him doing anything else. When Bon Scott passed away a mould shattered into a thousand tiny pieces.
