EP PREMIERE: Slow Fades - 'Canyon Songs'

"Fiercely independent."

More Slow Fades Slow Fades

Melbourne-based, indie-rockers Slow Fades are a brand new project with a brand new EP and we've got the exclusive premiere today on theMusic.com.au.

Speaking about the release, songwriter Ben Birchall said, "Canyon Songs is a collection of songs about falling down and getting back up again. In some songs, the canyon is literal – Laurel Canyon in 1970. In others, the canyon is something you need to get over, or get out of.

"This EP is rooted in what we've always done, indie guitar power-pop, but has one eye in '70s FM rock like Tom Petty and Jackson Browne, and sonically veers into Eno territory in parts. It's our '70s trip, basically.

"We've got a lot of history together - we've been playing together for a few decades now. But rather than just sink back into old habits, we're using that familiarity to push each other to play better, write better and sing better.

"We've been fiercely independent with this EP - our guitarist Dave recorded and produced it and our drummer Darren designed it. It's a different world to when we started. We no longer photocopy flyers and drop tapes into venues, but the principle is the same.”

Click play above and let it play through and transport you to your own canyon. The band will launch the EP in a one-off gig later this month. Scroll down to theGuide for all the details.
