PREMIERE: Ruby Gilbert - 'Dearly Beloved'

"I made this music because I wanted to be as brutally honest as possible..."

Ruby Gilbert is certainly impressing all the right people — having just been up for a Queensland Music Award — and her new EP, Dearly Beloved, is sure to win over a heap more.

"I made this music because I wanted to be as brutally honest as possible and reflect on who I am as a songwriter and an artist," said Gilbert. "I want to be able to connect with people through my lyrics, and that might be confronting."

Gilbert's hauntingly beautiful vocals are consistent over the four track long EP, which features her previously released track, Oh, Bones.

"Oh, Bones was written about a friend who fell out of contact," said Gilbert of the track. "It felt like they disappeared off the face of the earth, It's kind of weird how you can go from being so close to suddenly being strangers, I've always been intrigued by what happened."

Gilbert will be celebrating the release of Dearly Beloved this Saturday night at Bloodhound Bar; head to theGuide for more info.
