Perth-bred doom/stoner-rock heroes Puck are launching their awesome new EP, Dead To The World, this week but, before they hit the stage, The Music is stoked to be premiering the release in full today.
Set to officially drop this Friday, 30 September — the same day the band will hit the stage at Badlands Bar to celebrate its unveiling — the EP follows on from last year's well-received debut effort, finding the band in darker, heavier form than before with five mature new tracks that set the tone with the thunderous lurch of six-minute opening effort Kicking In and doesn't relent for the next near-half-hour.
Indeed, only one song on the EP — if you can really call it that, given its healthy run-time — falls south of the four-minute mark (second track Secular World), its compatriots all offering up five-minute-plus forays into expansive, shuddering soundscapes that refuse to relinquish their iron grip, even after the final strains have rung out into the ether.
The EP was recorded and mixed by Ron Pollard at North Dandelup's Studio Sleepwalker's Dread, with mastering handled by Brad Boatright of Audiosiege Mastering in Portland, Oregon.
