Sydney-based outfit Pretty Thrills deliver nothing but explosive riffs, massive drum fills and catchy hooks from the opening track of their debut EP.

The self-titled release from the Aussie pop punkers is, as frontman Max Donnellan told The Music, “a collection of tracks written about the breakdown of a relationship.”

Scarlet was the first track written after it ended and this kind of set the tone of the underlying lyrical themes of the EP. I tried to couple the emotions conveyed through the lyrics with some hard-hitting instrumentals to try and get these emotions across and appeal to listeners who had been through a similar situation before.

“It’s about the ups and downs of a relationship and how sometimes the drinking and other things can take a toll on not only yourself but the people around you. It’s a personal look into my life and the last couple years.

“It’s for anyone who is going through a tough time and needs something to help get them through.”
