“The songs resemble chapters to my journey."
Distant Land is, as Byron Bay’s Garrett Kato describes, a collection of memories spanning most of his life.
The new EP, set for release tomorrow, is a five-track effort full of emotion and sincere connections.
“The songs resemble chapters to my journey from as far back as childhood and as recent as becoming a father in a new country,” Kato told The Music.
The new release highlights just how far the Canadian-born muso has come since dropping everything on a whim, quitting his day job and moving to Australia to pursue music back in 2010.
Expanding on his "strange journey", Kato noted: “The decisions I’ve made in my life, for better or worse, haven’t necessarily been conventional to society. It was good though. I’d love for people to know it’s possible to show up somewhere new with nothing but a bag of clothes, a backpack, and a guitar and end up with a life you love. That’s my story."
Over the next few months, Kato will tour the US, Canada and Europe with Ziggy Alberts and Riley Pearce.
