EP PREMIERE: Dan Baker - 'From Corners Quiet'

"My best attempt at making lemonade."

Queensland folk troubadour Dan Baker has shared his brand new EP, From Corners Quiet - premiering right here on The Music.

A soaring collection of country tunes, Baker explained that the release came from a place of raw and authentic experience.

"From Corners Quiet is my best attempt at making lemonade," he said.

"I wanted to put together an honest account of my observations of human relationships of all kinds, effective or otherwise. It was important to ultimately retain authenticity lyrically while allowing sound to add embellishment – though this had to be using only real instruments."

Baker added, "I’ve always been drawn to writing which adopts the point of view of the outsider. This character, removed from influence, can create an account of a scene, or narrate it, more accurately and concisely than the key players. It’s from here that the EP draws its name.

"While first person is often used to tell the story, and some concepts are from first hand, every attempt was made, as much as is possible and where appropriate, to remove bias. It is a hopeful record – I love that despite so often falling short of our goals, we seem to retain a collective, defiant optimism."
