DRINKS ‘N’ GENRES

29 June 2014 | 10:10 am | Staff Writer

Rock'n'roll – Beer

There's no messing around with this one. Ladies and gentlemen who love loud guitars are drawn to beer, with variations being indie rock with boutique beers and pub rock with local, working-class beers. Serving suggestion: drink three-quarters and spill the rest on the floor in front of the stage or on a fellow punter.

Jazz – Wine

When you're perched at a little table in a dimly lit jazz club, watching a singer crooning atop a grand piano, you've gotta also be nursing a glass of vino while enjoying the ambience. Doesn't matter if it's red or white or sparkling; mostly it's just about the elegant way you hold the glass.

Dance/electro  – Jägerbombs/vodka/shots of any kind

Because “SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS-SHOTS-SHOTS!” And while you can have a vodka mixer while taking a breather, there's no way you can shake your ass vigorously while also holding a drink, so shots are the most convenient way of getting your alcohol intake. It's only practical.

Country  – Whiskey

Ramblin' Jack Elliot was all about Cigarettes, Whiskey And Wild Wild Women. Hank Williams, Jr was Whiskey Bent And Hell Bound. George Jones and David Allan Coe liked their Tennessee Whiskey. Too bad The Whiskey Ain't Workin' for Travis Tritt and Marty Stuart though. Need we go on?

Hip hop – Scotch & Dry/Gin & Juice

Smooth and refined and sexy, but must also have a bit of grunt. Jamesons and ginger's got that little extra spice to it. And when your mind's on your money and your money's on your mind, sippin' on gin and juice will probably help you relax.
