Did You Hear: The Beautiful Losers

"I thought if I don't do it now, it will never happen."

What would people remember you for? My bands (HolyRollers, The Beautiful Losers) and recordings in the '80s, and more recently our refined, yet raucous, live performances. People always comment on my lyrics, so hopefully I am remembered for that.

What caused the split/hiatus? The Beautiful Losers broke up in early '90s 'cause we couldn't find the right drummer so we sort of dissolved. Our hiatus is our comeback and new CD — we're better than we ever were.

What inspired the reformation? I've been thinking of it for a while... I thought if I don't do it now, it will never happen.

Is it a one-off, permanent, or see-how-it-goes? We'll keep this up for as long as we can.  There's more songs that I've written that need to be recorded. We're not trying to "get discovered", so it is more relaxed and fun.

Who's back in the fold? Cliff Kent on bass and myself are the only members who have been in every line-up from '87 through '92. For the born again Losers we're joined by Shaun Hoffman (drums) and Hurb Jephasun (piano/organ).

How does the live scene now compare to your heyday? In Perth, same as it was back then. There is a real camaraderie among Perth musos — competing against each other, but loving what each other do.

When and where for your next gigs? Wesley Anne, 28 Aug.
