Devolved: Euro-thrash.

Devolved play the Coolum RSL on Friday, the Gabba Hotel on Saturday and the Rose’n’Crown, Surfers Paradise on Sunday.

For some time Europe has been the promised land of metal, and Gold Coast moshers Devolved are set to add their piece to the continents sprawling puzzle. While they aren’t exactly the kind of band to saturate with weekly shows, this weekend’s run of gigs with the Sydney based Psi Kore are your last chance to catch them for a couple of months. Drummer John explains.

“We fly out on May 23 for some shows in Perth and then from there straight to London,” drummer John explains. “We’re touring through the UK from top to bottom in June, and then we’re off to Europe for about four weeks and then we’re doing five more shows in the UK before we fly back to Australia. Then we’re off to Japan for a couple of weeks in August”

Somewhere in the midst of all this touring should come the follow up release to the band’s debut Technologies.

“It’s called Automation. What we decided to do is bring out three EPs. The next one will be the end of this year, and hopefully the third in the first part of next year. Basically that’s going to be the new Devolved album. Basically it’s so we can keep the price down. This first one has three new songs, a CD ROM, a video for Distorted, some live footage, interviews, some other stuff like that. Just to do things a bit differently as well…”

Earlier in the year the band underwent some line up changes, with Excruciate bassist Wade joining the fray.

“The guy we had, Leighton, went overseas. There was another interest that he had that he wanted to do, and he got the opportunity it go, so… We all sat down together, and even the fact he was thinking about the idea kind have meant to us that we needed to get someone else. We really needed someone else with that mindset. Actually the first show Wade did with us, Excruciate were on the line up. It was all cool. No bad blood or anything. All is happy in the camp, that’s for sure.”
