Centennial Park Is Getting A Labyrinth

Sydney's Centennial Park is getting a labyrinth to help you walk those stresses away. Crazy ex-girlfriend? Jerk of a boss? Worry no more!

If you’re like me and spent your childhood watching classics like The Labyrinth, rocking to As The World Falls Down and marvelling at Bowie’s makeup, you probably found yourself wishing at some point that you could roam a labyrinth too. If so, you may be excited to hear that the Board of Trustees at Centennial Park recently approved the construction of a sandstone labyrinth. That’s right; there will be a labyrinth in Centennial Park!

Okay, so it’s not quite like the one in the movie. In fact it’s a little more like one of those labyrinth games, with the metal balls that you have to manoeuvre around to avoid having them fall into holes. Except with no holes. It is, however, supposed to be insanely relaxing and meditative – and addictive. Stressing about a test? Worried about work? Freaking out about overzealous girlfriends? Go take a walk in the labyrinth, it’ll make you feel better.

The really cool thing is that this is all due to the work of Emily Simpson, who decided a year ago that she wanted a labyrinth in Centennial Park. She did her research, submitted a proposal to the Board, and her application got accepted. Funds are still being raised for the project, and you can donate through the website HERE.

On a side note, I really want to see someone apply to have something like this at Centennial Park. Or at any other park that I can get to:

That would totally fit in with the park’s vibe, wouldn’t it?
