No Rest For The Weary, Or Busy

4 April 2016 | 4:53 pm | Brynn Davies

"Sometimes you just have to persevere and keep banging it out until you find the sound."

Brunswick four-piece Busy Kingdom have been nothing short of frantic over the past couple of years writing, recording and independently releasing three EPs and an album, squeezing in supports for The Getaway Plan and Thirsty Merc among their own shows, all topped off by one of the worst human experiences — a move from Sydney to Melbourne.

"The studio has cool vibes and knowing that a bunch of great acts had recorded there before us was rad."

"My brother and I started as an acoustic duo then ended up getting a band together. We had a few early line-up changes but we've got a tight band now," says Brendan Etherington, who shares vocals and guitars with his brother Michael. Their latest single Temptation was produced by industry header Lindsay Gravina. "He's worked with a bunch of great Aussie rock acts [The Living End, Jet, British India] so we wanted to utilise his skills and up the ante with the production on the track. It evolved a lot since we first wrote it.

"Working with Lindsay in a top class studio was inspiring. He had fantastic gear and got us trying lots of different things to get the best result. The studio has cool vibes and knowing that a bunch of great acts had recorded there before us was rad," says Etherington."We try not to get too carried away with the 'perfect' take. Generally if a take has a great feel it's best to go with your instincts and run with it."

The single is the first track off their EP, which is set to drop later this year, and Busy Kingdom aren't stopping for gas until it's perfected. "Sometimes you just have to persevere and keep banging it out until you find the sound."
