Brekkie Salads: Melbourne

12 February 2016 | 12:02 pm | Xavier Fennell

If salad is good for you, and breakfast is the most important meal of the day, then breakfast salads must be one of the greatest meals a human can ingest. Following this logic, we got together a few of our favourites around your city.

The Farm Cafe - 18 St Heliers St, Abbotsford

The Farm Cafe began as car boot affair with a coffee machine and a trestle table before flourishing into the establishment it is today. In terms of brekkie salads, The Farm Cafe offers their Super Salad with avocado, quinoa, carrot, beetroot, leafy greens and pepitas with pomegranate molasses dressing and cashew hummus.

St Edmonds - 154 Greville St, Prahran

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

Prahran's St Edmonds was a garage, now it's a cafe — a classic old-to-new tradition that can be attributed to so many businesses in Melbourne. St Edmonds offers the tasty Breakfast Greens dish for something healthier: raw broccoli, shredded kale, avocado, fresh chilli, buckwheat kernels, pistachios and poached eggs.

Pillar Of Salt - 541 Church St, Richmond

Sibling to cafes Tall Timber, Touchwood and Barry, Pillar Of Salt is located in the heart of Richmond. Their Californian Super Food Salad features tri-coloured quinoa, red and green kale, wild organic rice, goji berries, charred corn, salted ricotta, black turtle beans, heirloom tomatoes, and a lime and jalapeno vinaigrette. Add some poached shredded chicken and/or poached egg if you're feeling like a hit of protein!

Palate - 132 Greville St, Prahran

Palate boasts delicious paleo options and all-day breakfast. This place gets packed out on weekends, but it's worth a little wait to get their eggs with quinoa, superseeds, haloumi, poached eggs and avocado.
