To celebrate the release of 'YC-TAPE Vol.1', BOY SODA has shared the creative hustle that inspired the new release.
There’s a lot of BTS I've found while looking back over the past year, and putting it together really made me remember how much work and passion I’ve put into it over time. There are so many sessions and voice memo ideas that I hear back as the early bones of a song that’s now mastered and out for the world. Watching myself write, come up with melodies and then stumble onto what I now know is the final version is really special. The best part about it all is that I did it with friends and people who are just as passionate as me. Recording songs, photoshoots and travelling because of my music are not things I will ever ever take for granted. I’m so lucky to be living in the opportunities I receive and am always so ready to create, so these videos of studio sessions and moments I had while making the Young Clementine Tape are really special reminders that I live a life I've wanted since I was young.
The tape is essentially an album, and all of the songs could have been singles to me. They all entertain and express different sides and versions of me as a human and as an artist, and it’s been liberating as fuck to release a project that is a true reflection of the way I create music. I don’t think any song can be defined as a particular genre, it’s just undeniably me right now. I float in a world influenced by R&B, soul, Hip-Hop, Funk, Pop, Jazz, Neo-Soul etc, and I release this project knowing that it is an accumulation of all of my favourite parts of these genres and my interpretation of their essences. I love this Tape, and I think, for the first time in my career, it’s been loving me back!
I feel alive and excited, and inspired from it. I think I might have to turn it into a trilogy of tapes.
