‘I Have To Go Rogue Every Single Time’: Peach PRC Reflects On The Past As She Steps Into Her New Era

BIGSOUND 2019 Speaker Focus: Francesca de Valence

What you need to know about your BIGSOUND speakers.

Position/Title: Founder/CEO at I Heart Songwriting Club

How did you first become involved in the music industry and how did you end up where you are today? I am foremost a singer-songwriter but one who struggled to write songs. I had hundreds of unfinished song ideas that I struggled to finish. So I created I Heart Songwriting Club to solve my problem of unfinished songs, which has now helped over 450 songwriters do that too.

What's been the biggest change in the music industry you've seen over the past 12 months? The biggest change I'm seeing in the music industry is a new sense of transparency and sharing alongside empowering artists to learn, connect and take action to have the careers they want.

What do you think will be the biggest issue affecting the music industry in the next 12 months and why? Learning to let go of the old and embrace the new. But I think we're on our way.

What advice would you give young practitioners in your area starting out today? Take action. Practise writing songs every single week, practise playing - play shows as often as you can, ask questions, find mentors, be a part of a community - something bigger than you.

What will you be primarily discussing during your appearance at the BIGSOUND conference and what are you hoping that people will be able to learn from your panel? I really love talking about how writing 52 finished songs a year can have a significant impact on an artist or songwriter's career. I'm hoping people will be inspired to take action to have the music careers they want.

Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND and why? Lucy Peach! Oh my, this woman is a goddess. She has a show called My Greatest Period Ever and it's about using your menstruation cycle to enhance your energy and shine.

What advice do you have for BIGSOUND first-timers? Make connections for a career, not a year. And follow up, follow up, follow up!

Assuming you've been previously, what's your favourite BIGSOUND memory? And which artist was your standout performance? Singing in a 16-piece golden-robed choir of I Heart Songwriting Club members with Mama Kin Spender at BIGSOUND 2017, who wrote most of their ARIA-nominated album in I Heart Songwriting Club.

When and where is your panel? 5 Sep, High Output Creativity, Moon Room, Cloudland, 2pm.
