What you need to know about your BIGSOUND artists.

Answered by: Dana Lowrey

Give us a short description of your music: It's a blend between new-age soul, R&B and pop. Heavy on the bass and easy on the ears.

Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND? A must-see for me is Milan Ring. I'm so impressed by her! I've seen snippets of her live show and heard nothing but great feedback. Others are Tones & I, Hallie and Oh Boy.

Why should people come and see you among the many amazing bands at BIGSOUND? I can't give away all my secrets, but just know I like to tell a story. I like to engage with the audience on new levels and make them laugh. My band is tight and super talented. It's going to be a ride.

What music trends do you think are dominating right now, and do you have any predictions for the coming year? There is a movement happening. Artists are breaking rules in all the best ways. Artists like Billie Eilish are coming through with such unapologetic authenticity and phenomenal songwriting, and it's truly a breath of fresh air! I hope more boundaries are pushed and we celebrate and encourage what makes us unique.

In your career to date, what have been the key watershed moments? Meeting my manager last year changed my life completely. It was by pure chance and word of mouth that we came to know each other. He works super hard for our opportunities.

What industry lessons would you like to take away from the BIGSOUND conference? This year I have given my pass to my manager so I won't be attending the conference. Fortunately I've been to the conference the last two years in a row and for me, socialising, networking and being on the ground where it all happens is KEY.

What do you identify as the most pressing issue impacting the Australian music industry at present? Lockout laws.

What is the best bit of advice you've been given to prepare for your time at BIGSOUND? To have fun! Get creative. It's about connection, experience and your energy. It's not necessarily about playing perfectly but putting on a damn good show.

When and where is your BIGSOUND showcase?  4 Sep, The Valley Drive In, 8.20pm; 5 Sep, Gold Coast Showcase, X Cargo, 12.30pm;  5 Sep, Woolly Mammoth Mane Stage, 8.20pm.
