Beast Feast Focus: Van Walker's Heartbrokers

"Beer, surf, pies, footy shorts, wizards."

Answered by: Van Walker — Singer, guitarist, songwriter

What five words spring to mind when you hear "Oz rock'n'roll"? Beer, surf, pies, footy shorts, wizards.

Why do you think some Aussie rock bands find more success overseas than on home turf? Because of our guileless charm and hilarious accent.

What's your favourite Beast release and why? Can't go wrong with anything by James McCann.

What to you is the greatest Oz rock song and why? Solid Rock by Shane Howard (beating Down Under and Errol) 'cause of the historical content. Whole Lot Of Rosie by AC/DC fits bill. London Paris Bracken Ridge by The Onyas too.

What are you most looking forward to about Beast Feast? Any deafening weekend at The Tote is welcome.

Beast Feast is on at The Tote on 19 & 20 Feb.
