David Copperfield And Claudia Schiffer: In Sequins And On Fire

"We took a whole bunch of stuff we used to take seriously in our early 20s, especially all the weird things we saw on cruise ships..."

"Imagine if David Copperfield and Claudia Schiffer were from the Gold Coast circa 1992," Asher Treleaven begins, describing his act Peter & Bambi Heaven. "Now roll them in sequins and set them on fire and you're almost there."

You know you're in for one fantastic show when Treleaven and his leading lady, Gypsy Wood, are at the helm of an outrageous satire about the perils of show business and the weird and wacky characters 'the biz' breeds.

"This show is actually and literally the best show in the Comedy festival."

Winner of Best Cabaret 2015 at Fringe World, Peter & Bambi Heaven are certain to coax many a laugh from Melbourne audiences. "People who know showbiz will laugh because it's all the characters you see there pushed to their limits."

Wood and Treleaven came up with the idea after reflecting on spending years trying to make it in the entertainment world. "We took a whole bunch of stuff we used to take seriously in our early 20s, especially all the weird things we saw on cruise ships," Treleaven says, "and just took the piss out it."

The parody variety show has no political underpinnings or ulterior motives. Treleaven, who has a circus and stand-up background and has worked with La Soirée, says, "You come in, you laugh a lot and then you leave."

While Treleaven calls it "dumb", it's clear a lot of thought has gone into the characterisation of the larger than life pair who met at a personal development program in Burleigh Heads and fired all of their fellow actors cause they were desperate for the limelight.

Treleaven and Wood take you on a journey through the foibles and bungles of perpetually C-grade actors as they try to impress with cabaret stylings, magic and dance.

When asked if there was anything else he'd like to add, Treleaven says, "This show is actually and literally the best show in the Comedy festival."
