How did you go about casting the role of Annie? Casting Annie was a challenging undertaking. We auditioned 90 eager little girls for the orphan roles from which 13 were selected through a small group process so that it did not seem too threatening. The girls were collectively taught It’s A Hard Knock Life and those who wanted to try out for Annie also sang Maybe. Dance followed voice auditions and those who showed potential were given a call-back to read the dialogue for the key role. The production team were delighted to give two girls an opportunity to play this enviable, iconic role.
