Celebrate the release of his new EP with some stone cold classics..

Last we heard from Allan Smithy on Pilerats he was giving us an annotated guide to Inner West Sydney pubs, and in what some might say is perfect synergy, today he's given us a bloody alright pub rock classics playlist. Why? We're celebrating the release of his new EP, I See A Palm Tree, which is out today, and the playlist serves as a perfect reference point for some of Smithy's influences. Noiseworks – Take Me Back To You: Just your text book massive snare and massive chorus ensemble.

Goanna – Solid Rock:This is one of those songs everyone knows, but they don’t actually know they know it, if you know what I mean.

Cold Chisel – Flame Trees: Khe San is too obvious and Cold Chisel are too important to omit from my top 10.

Midnight Oil – US Forces: Any Midnight Oil song fits the brief. For today I chose US Forces because I like the acoustic guitar.

Powderfinger – I’ll Be The One: This one is for all the Queenslanders. Someone once told me that whenever you are in a pub in Brisbane you will definitely hear a Powderfinger song. It’s true, and has been proven every time I go there.

Screaming Jets – Better: This riff is so sick, and it fits into any pub based scenario brilliantly. I still don’t know what they are singing in the chorus.

The Church – Reptile: This is another stellar riff. I could definitely vibe this in the front bar of the Corner Hotel.

INXS – Never Tear Us Apart: Like Karaoke this song always comes on the juke box randomiser and for good reason, it’s a slow jam with a sax solo.

David Bowie – Let's Dance: When I worked at the Sawdust Hotel this song always played on the juke box every hour. Sadly neither David Bowie or the Sawdust are with us anymore.

Darryl Braithwaite – The Horses: Rounding out the list is arguably the best pub rock song of all time. It's hard to hear this song and not stop what you are doing to sing the chorus.
