“It’s been an incredible journey."
Melbourne three-piece My Elephant Ride take listeners on a cosmic and soulful indie pop rollercoaster with their second LP, Beyond The Skin.
Written between Melbourne and Bali over the past two years, the new release follows on from the band’s 2016 debut, In The Jungle, which The Music praised for its “hazy guitars, tinkling keys and smoky vocal lines”.
“It’s been an incredible journey with literal tears of pain and a life long memorable rollercoaster ride,” vocalist/guitarist Joe Berridge told The Music.
“At the end, this album is definitely our best work to date and we are hope it can reach as many ears as possible."
Chevaunne Keleher explained the process: “We set up DIY spaces in Canggu, Bali, and a studio in Abbotsford and used them to drink coffees, share song snippets, and take turns recording demo ideas and adding quirky samples. Canggu involved a homestay where we hung up blankets on the walls for soundproofing. I don’t know if it really worked but it was pretty cosy."
Band member Nathan Abbey said the experience did wonders for their “skin and mental heath, as there’s inspiration by the bucket loads and the abstinence from our Melbourne working lives helped us keep a clear mind for the extended period of time of creating this record”.
