Album title? Shadows Documents

Where did the title of your new album come from? This is a reference to our work in Kenya, documenting traditional folk music.

How many releases do you have now? About 30, not including compilations and 7”s.

How long did it take to write/record? It was longer then anything I had done previously yet a more organic process, partly because we were both so unfamiliar with the music.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? The combination of programmed and acoustic rhythm structures. The drums and the percussion of Sven were supposed to sound like electronics instruments just through the way they were tuned and played, not through electronic effects.

What’s your favourite song on it? The album feels quite coherent and in this respect, it feels like an organic whole than a collection of songs.

Will you do anything differently next time? We are already working on some new material and will do some recordings with Swedish/Ethiopian singer Sofia Jernberg later on this autumn.

When and where is your launch/next gig? 17 Jun, Street Theatre, Canberra; 19 Jun, Goethe-Institut.
