Album title? The Times Of Ceylon
Where did the title of your new album come from? Coral Gunning was an entertainer from Perth who toured the world in the 1940s. We found an incredible image of her with the words 'The Times Of Ceylon' scrawled on it. It was perfect.
How many releases do you have now? Just this full length, but we released Bear Hotel with some remixes, and there's more of that on the way.
How long did it take to write/record? All up about two years or so. We took our time writing it because we weren't gigging at the time, so the resulting album is fairly diverse stylistically.
Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? Although she didn't necessarily inspire the songs, Coral Gunning became the patron saint of the record, and we named a lot of the songs after events from her life.
What's your favourite song on it? I like playing Coral Gunning and Inuit Summer live the most.
Will you do anything differently next time? We've been improvising a lot lately, so I think the next release will be written far more on the fly as opposed to being so tightly structured.
When and where is your launch/next gig? Saturday 12 November @ Paper Mountain with support from Akioka, Atripat and Orphans.
