Album Focus: Fallon Cush

Answered by: Steve Smith

Album title? Bee In Your Bonnet

Where did the title of your new album come from? The title track is a conversation between two people, but the album title is meant to be broader than that. In retrospect I probably had a bee in my bonnet when writing the album

How many releases do you have now? This will be the third Fallon Cush album. Our last one, April, was released in 2012.

How long did it take to write/record? It was all written and recorded last year. Recorded over a couple of sessions with a good chunk of the lyrics written in my phone sitting at lights on the way to the studio.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? Maracas. We discovered the power and transformational qualities of the maraca. Too late unfortunately to put them on every track but given the chance probably would have.

What's your favourite song on it? Don't really have one and we've been surprised by the number of different tracks radios pick up. Might all be okay.

Will you do anything differently next time? We'd definitely have more maracas. And maybe finish the lyrics a little earlier.

When and where is your launch/next gig? We launch the album at Lazybones in Marrickville on 13 May with The Nature Strip and The Forresters. Fallon Cush will be in full six-piece band mode. Pretty exciting.
