'Everything Fell Off': The Struggles That Birthed Telenova's New Album, 'The Warning'

Album Focus: Aminah Hughes

"This process was a huge learning curve."

Album title? Blue Wooden Boat
Where did the title of your new album come from? Blue Wooden Boat is the album's title track and first single.
How many releases do you have now? After appearing on 10 albums in Australia and Europe, this is my first solo release.
How long did it take to write/record? I chose from material I'd written over a few years, mostly during my time in Ireland. It took around five years from conception to completion, as I recorded in four countries and many studios.
Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? My environment and the people I'd been performing and recording with. I wanted to present a collection of cross-generic material that would open up possibilities for where I might want to go next.
What's your favourite song on it? I love the Memphis blues/gospel vibe of Tell Me It's Over, and the melancholic, ethereal quality of the title track.
Will you do anything differently next time? A million things. This process was a huge learning curve. I now have a comprehensive list of the right order to do things in, which will save time.
When and where is your launch/next gigs? My launch is at Ellington Jazz Club on November 14.
